Fixing my Broken Childhood PlayStation 2 | Console Repair
My PlayStation 2 broke and a piece of my childhood did at the same time. So I learn how to fix a PS2 Disc Laser and fix it myself! All so I can play classic nostalgic video games like Ratchet and Clank, Metal Gear Solid 3 and, of course, Dog's Life.
After decades of gaming, my PS2 not only decided to break the PS2 Power Button but also the PS2 Disc Laser Reader - meaning I can no longer play games on my PS2 as it stutters... until now. Here I try, for the first time, to get my DIY on and fix it myself with parts I ordered online.
Here's what happened!
📢 Shoutout
Massive shoutout to @yourcoolunclemarisa for the video on replacing PS2 lasers. Check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/nOD8av8aBT8/v-deo.html
And of course, a big shout out to Vinesauce Joel for the hilarious album that is, Super Ghostbusters 👻

Great advice for youtubers, poor advice for solo dev. Understanding that youtuber game devs are FIRSTLY UA-camRS has been the greatest piece of knowledge I earned for the last 3 years. Becoming a youtuber game dev isn't a bad decision as it gives you passive income and a very involved community, but if you can afford to go all-in on solo dev, don't bother becoming a youtuber as it's an other job on its own (editing, writing, acting). Just make games, game jam-sized or small team-sized, doesn't matter, but start and FINISH your projects. Finishing a project is the hardest skill to learn so start to. Take care, love y'all struggling artists <3

Brave of you for going after Yandere Dev's creepy game. That dev is unhinged. Got no idea what I'm watching. Actually in high school I took a class of coding, we had a hand written test and I did poorly but my code didn't look like anywhere near that monstrosity.

Great vid and repair! I was an Xbox boy. I modded it when I was in middle school, upgraded through a number of hard drives, changed the thermal paste a few times, and it’s still kicking. I have a fat PS2 (30001) that I got from my cousin and its laser is still working fine. Had to open it and give it a good clean and lubricate the disc drive, reflow the AC input solder points, and a few other things, but it’s incredible how resilient these machines are. I ended up modding it to avoid any further stress to the laser, so now it reads games from a 1TB SSD

if anything I think it’s the most fun I had gameplay wise so far. Felt like the other games were just get shot try to stand up get shot try to stand up aaaand repeat. I would spend HOURS on some bosses. While in this one the boss’s move set was real easy to read so I could get away with beating them while only taking a little bit off of my health bar. Even the second to last boss with the guns ended up being real easy even though I usually do so bad in gun encounters. I think the only time I struggle just a little bit was the bull fight

I can forgive them for layoffs. Most tech companies over-hired. Investors were looking at everyone over-hiring and pressured their own companies to over-hire, because corpos thought more people developing more features equals more $$$, and people that didn't go nuts hiring would lose out on talent and be pushed out of the industry by competitors. There was a lot of greed at play from both corpos and developers as well who were ditching their existing companies for those ludicrous covid pay rises from companies trying to poach employees. The only people I feel sorry for are loyal employees that got caught up in layoffs.
